Exuberant finale with the Mezzotono

Cavtat’s 500-year old Gothic-Renaissance Franciscan church of Our Lady of the Snow is home to several masterpieces. Vicko Lovrin’s polyptych dates back to the beginning of the 16th century.  Our Lady of Cavtat (oil, Bukovac, Prague 1909) hangs in the lunette above the triumphal arch.
And then, there is the hundred year old beautiful queen of musical instruments- a recently restored organ, built in 1911 by the Rieger brothers from Jaegerndorf, upon the order of the Franciscans themselves. These pieces alone are enough to enrich the soul and to evoke the pride in our heritage so well-characterized by the church’s beautiful interior. Here takes place the final concert of the 5th International Epidaurus Festival in Cavtat.
On Saturday, September 24th at 8:30pm, the Festival presents Italian vocal ensemble Mezzotono performing the most beautiful pages of sacred and popular music, Neapolitan songs, from tarantella to gospel – unique pearls of musical literature well-known to everyone!
We wonder how it is possible to have an orchestra without any musical instruments instruments, and we find our answer in this concert of enviable voices.
The concert, entitled Ave Maria for Cavtat, will conclude this year’s Festival in a beautiful, festive, inspired way.  With this, we welcome the early autumn season, a mesmerizing time in Konavle.
