Friday evening, September 23rd, the Epidaurus Festival presents an homage to the great Franz Liszt. Liszt was, we can rightly say, a phenomenon of the 19th century, in the world of classical music and even beyond. The emergence of Franz Liszt on the artistic stage was a milestone - a fantastic unification of all the arts, a blending of literature and music. Liszt’s Concert Etudes united all facets of musical life with European literary classics: Goethe, Berlioz…All this to say that in the meeting of literature and music is discovered the sublime works of Franz Liszt. It is therefore no wonder that the Epidaurus Festival celebrates for the third time this season the great virtuoso of the concert piano, this transcendent creator, with a program cycle that astounds and delights. The musical world takes a pilgrimage to Liszt as the literary world perpetually pilgrimages to Goethe. In his own record, Liszt speaks poetically and even epically of his own works, giving literary names and meaning to his music and extra musical creation. Works will be performed by pianist Ivan Pernicki, Dubrovnik native Ivan Violić and the Querelle Trio, consisting of three young Croatian artists- Violić and Petromila Marica Jakas on violin, with Svebor Szekely on cello. For the Finale of this year’s edition of the Epidaurus Festival, we’ve saved a real treat.
